Michael Klein
Chief Executive Officer
As president of the North Central Division of Gambro Healthcare from July 2000 until January 2004, Mr. Klein led Gambro's largest business division. Under his leadership, net revenue increased from $450 million to approximately $620 million and EBITDA margins expanded from approximately 13% to approximately 25%. At Gambro, he emphasized the crucial role of clinical quality, implementing a continuous quality improvement program and standardized clinical care pathways that improved patient outcomes.
Mr. Klein previously was President and CEO of SSI Surgical Services, Inc., a provider of specialty surgical instrument management programs, on-site sterile process management and off-site sterilization services. He also was co-founder, president, and CEO of Urotherapies, Inc., a urology physician management company. Mr. Klein also held senior positions at Caremark International, Inc. and Baxter.
Dean Weiland
Chief Operating Officer
In 2003, Mr. Weiland co-founded and served as CEO of The Work Institute, a company that provides research, information technology and organizational tools for the management of human capital. The North Central Division of Gambro Healthcare was a client of the firm. In 2000, Mr. Weiland co-founded and served as Chief Operating Officer of Cleartrack Information Network, a provider of information, workflow and measurement tools for supply chain management.
Mr. Weiland previously was executive vice president at MEDSTAT and the general manager of its Inforum division, and held senior positions at Aladdin Industries, Coventry Corporation, Caremark International and Baxter.
John Crawford
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Crawford has more than 20 years of experience in healthcare operations management, corporate financial management, banking and public company investor relations and mergers and acquisitions. His most recent experience includes being the executive vice president and chief financial officer for Surgis, Inc., an ambulatory surgery center and surgical services company. Prior to that he served as president and CEO of New Light Imaging Partners LLC, an outpatient imaging center developer and held senior level management positions at Iasis Healthcare Corporation and Phycor, Inc. Mr. Crawford is a graduate of the University of Arkansas where he earned his undergraduate degree in accounting.
Juha Kokko
Chief Medical Officer
For more than 30 years, Dr. Kokko has been a pioneer and leader in research, teaching and the practice of medicine. Early in his career, while at Southwestern Medical School, he developed the technique to isolate kidney tubules perfused in vitro; published groundbreaking work leading to the understanding of salt, acid-base and volume homeostasis in health and disease; trained more than 100 postdoctoral fellows, many of whom became directors of Nephrology divisions at prestigious universities; and developed a renal transplant program and a large clinical dialysis facility. Since 1984, he has been with Emory School of Medicine, first as Chairman of Medicine and then as Associate Dean of Clinical Research. In 2006, he received the Berliner award recognizing his lifelong contributions to renal research.
Karl Kokko
Chief Information Officer
With extensive experience in developing software solutions for the dialysis industry, Mr. Kokko spent 12 years on the Gambro Healthcare information technology team in both senior manager and senior software architect positions. He developed the original technology platform for REN Corporation that became the foundation for the existing Gambro dialysis system, which efficiently operated clinic system growth from 43 to 658 dialysis clinics.
Jon Sundock
Chief Legal Counsel
Mr. Sundock has over 17 years of experience in mergers and acquisitions, healthcare and corporate law. He has served as legal counsel to providers of management service to physicians, physician organizers, managed care networks and providers of dialysis services. Mr. Sundock was a member of Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis, and previously was general counsel for Aveta Healthcare, Inc.; counsel for the North Central Division of Gambro Healthcare; and associate general counsel for PhyCor, Inc. He holds an undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University and a law degree from the University of Alabama.
